Human settlement dates back to the Paleolithic era in Cappadocia and written history begins with Hittites. Houses carved into the rocks and underground cities have been sheltered homes to people for thousands of years and people lived in these homes in the periods of Hittites, Persians, Cappadocia Kingdom, Roman period, and Seljuk and Ottoman Empires. Two important roads, the Silk Road and the Persian Royal Road had passed across this land. Being a cradle for a variety of cultures, each civilization has left its own traces, the traditions have blended and become enriched, and what has come to existence is an enchanted land where you can testify at each step different layers of history from unmatched frescoes in the churches of early Christianity to the underground cities that carry the memories of thousands of years, outdoor museums, Seljuk caravanserais, and mosques.
Petra Inn was built considering 200 years old Çarhacı Mustafa Efendi Mansion as the core of the hotel. The hotel consists of 19 rooms, 4 of them are in the mansion, 10 of them are cave rooms where people used to live for thousands of years. Since we have a very precious historical and cultural heritage, the restoration process needed a long and meticulous work. The mansion rooms were just cleaned and reinforced. The ancient caves, hamamlık (ancient turkish bathroom) and şırahane (the place for mashing the grapes) were cleaned. The stone arches were reinforced by using their original stones. The old stones conforming with the mansion were used to build rooms and large terraces.
The name Petra means rock in Latin and stone in Greek Language. We decorated our rooms with reliefs from the Hittites period, the originals of them are exhibited in Anatolian Civilizations Museum. Therefore, we have chosen different stones as the concept of our hotel rooms and entitled the rooms with the names of semi-precious stones, learned the story of the stones and were impressed with the energy of them.
All rooms were carefully designed. You can experience luxury in the history with the help of underground heating, special lightening, stone carved fireplace, jacuzzi, and handmade carpets. Cappadocia is a dynamic geography, while volcanic tuff has eroded over time, it has provided humanity with unique landscapes and sheltered homes. Our caves are also affected by this dynamism. You may come across small tuff fragments detached from the walls, just like our ancestors who used the same caves thousands of years ago.
We used the room roofs used for drying apricots and grapes in the past as terraces. The view is magnificent. Güvercinlik Valley, fairy chimneys, balloons passing over you, light games on Mount Erciyes give photographers the opportunity to capture beautiful snaps. Watching the dance of balloons in the sunrise is a unique experience. Our terraces are also perfect for yoga lovers who want to greet the sun in a silent and magical atmosphere. The old village square junction next; It connects the roads of the historical caravanserai, church and rock mosque. The historical and cultural riches of Cappadocia await you within walking distance.
You are at the right address for an unforgettable holiday in a unique geography.
